Be Inspire Blogship Meme

So I’ve been tagged by the adorable Hali Baumstein for the Be Inspire Blogship Meme, which means all you lovely folks will get to hear even more about my manuscript.
  1. What is the name of your book? The Apollo Academy
  2. Where did the idea for the book come from? I think the idea for The Apollo Academy started many years ago as I voraciously read book after book in my search to find a killer aviation story. A book that I couldn’t put down like Twilight, Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and so many other young adult novels, but one that focused on a young, kick-ass female pilot with a love and adventure story behind it.  If you follow my blog, you’ll know that it was my husband who finally told me to just go sit in front of my computer to start writing the book I seemed to be searching for. After his push, The Apollo Academy just came out of me in a matter of months.
  3. In what genre would you classify your book? Young Adult Science Fiction with crossover appeal.
  4. If you had to pick actors to play your characters in a movie rendition, who would you choose? Hmmm…that’s  a tough one. And y’all will probably laugh at me when I tell you that when I think oof the MC, Aurora, I think of a cartoon character. She's on the Disney Channel as the Pirate Princess.

Zane, a male MC, I picture as Brandon Beemer                                                                     Sky, another male MC, I picture as
    Chris Pine. Whoot!
  5. Give us a one-sentence synopsis of your book. Plummeting 55,000ft-Check. Oxygen malfunction-Check. Normal for astronaut training? Nope, someone wants Aurora out…  Ok- so it’s not technically a sentence, but it is less than 140 characters.
  6. Is your book already published?  NOT YET.
  7. How long did it take you to write your book? I wrote the first draft of The Apollo Academy from Oct. 2011-Jan 2012. And I’ve spent the remaining 2012 year revising it!!!
  8. What other books within your genre would you compare it to? Or, readers of which books would enjoy yours? I like how my agent described it when she offered to represent me: “It’s a mix between Jennifer Echol's Such A Rush and Battlestar Galactica.”
  9. Which authors inspired you to write this book? Authors of all the books I’ve ever fallen in love with ignited my passion for reading, which is what ultimately inspired me to write.  There’s too many to name. If I had to pick an author who inspires me writing-style-wise that would hands down be Cinda Williams Chima. LOVE HER!
  10. Tell us anything that might pique our interest in your book? Who wouldn’t want to read about an Academy dedicated to astronaut training where students learn to fly supersonic jets? A story full of adventure, romance, and spiked with aviation??!!
  11. Tag five people!
Let’s start with my agency sisters: Leatrice McKinney and Molly Lee
Awesome CP:  Melissa Hurst
And Twitter writer friends: Jamie Corrigan and Rachel Horwitz
